PETALING JAYA: A million people have registered for the Covid-19 vaccine via the MySejahtera app, says Khairy Jamaluddin (pic).

The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister tweeted the figure on Friday (Feb 26), adding that more frontliners are also receiving their jabs.

"It’s safe, it’s effective, ” Khairy tweeted.

The number of registrations is still increasing rapidly after the mass vaccination programme officially kicked off on Wednesday (Feb 24).

Even with the encouraging numbers, Khairy is still urging Malaysians to get registered to receive their Covid-19 jab on the MySejahtera app.

“Let’s end the pandemic. Take the vaccine. Register today, ” he said, adding the hashtag #LindungDiriLindungSemua (protect yourself, protect others).

In a separate tweet, he added that the long-term effects of contracting the Covid-19 virus is one of the reasons Malaysians should get vaccinated.

“The perception that ‘I’m healthy, I wouldn’t die if I get Covid’ doesn’t take into account the terrible effects of long Covid, ” he said.

‘Long Covid’ is a phrase that refers to the condition where Covid-19 patients still report feeling unwell weeks after their first bout of infection, with some suffering symptoms far longer than that.

Some studies suggest that about one in 10 Covid-19 patients suffer from such a condition.
